A CHAIR IS THE SMALLEST FORM OF
ARCHITECTURE.
I WAS LOOKING INTO ARCHITECTURE FACADES AND INTERIOR STRUCTURES WHEN DESIGNING THIS CHAIR. I WAS SO INTRIGUED BY HOW THE ORNAMENTATIONS WERE USED ON THE FACADES. IT BECOMES ESPECIALLY INTERESTING WHEN ARCHITECTURE IS MORE OFTEN IDENTIFIED AS A MASCULINE SUBJECT, WHILE ORNAMENTS AND PATTERNS WERE CONSIDERED FEMININE. THE BALANCE BETWEEN THE TWO REACHES A POINT OF ANDROGYNOUS.
MY VERY FIRST INSPIRATION COMES FROM A PHOTO OF CHAPELLE SAINT-PIERRE (SEE BELOW). THEN I LOOKED INTO THE CONSTRUCTIONS OF CHURCH FURNITURES. THE SIMPLE AND HUMBLE CONSTRUCTIONS INSPIRED THE DESIGN OF THE CHAIR. I WANTED TO JUXTAPOSE THE EXCESSIVENESS OF ORNAMENTATION AND THE SIMPLICITY OF THE PLANE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD CONSTRUCTIONS.
